Ajax defender Matthias De Ligt has been heavily linked with a move to Manchester United in recent weeks, but former Ajax and United manager Louis Van Gaal believes the 19 year old would be better off at Manchester City.
It seemed just a few weeks ago that the Ajax youth product had all but secured a move to Barcelona to join his friend and teammate Frenkie De Jong.
But reports emerged that Manchester United were to beat the financial package Barcelona offered, and as time passes the links have just gotten stronger.
But Louis Van Gall, who has managed at all three of those clubs in his career has told FOX Sports that De Ligt should consider Manchester City as well.
When asked if the Dutchman would be a good fit for Pep Guardiola’s side, he responded;
“I think exactly the same. Although De Ligt can go to Barcelona too, because I don’t like their central defenders either.”
“He could play at Barcelona, but he could play for Manchester City also, and in that case I would choose Pep Guardiola over Lionel Messi.”
