Championship play-off winners Aston Villa have released striker Ross McCormack almost two years after he last made an appearance for the club. McCormack signed for Villa from Fulham for £12m back in August 2016 but scored just three times in 20 league appearances.
The Scotland forward is now looking for a new club after talks with the Villans ended with the two parties reaching an agreement for him to leave the club. Newly promoted Barnsley are rumoured to be interested in signing the 32 year old but wages could be an issue.
He spent time on loan in Australia with Central Coast Mariners and in Scotland with Motherwell in 2018-19. Speaking in January this year, Ross McCormack had this to say about his time at the West Midlands club. “It’s the self doubt. Especially at Aston Villa – when you walk into the changing room you are not wanted, you don’t feel a part of it, you don’t feel good enough to be there.”
Villa have now released nine players since they won promotion to the Premier League with victory over Derby in last week’s Championship play-off final.
